New Xbox Live record: Two million players at one time

Earlier today, G4TV reported that a Microsoft exec recently boasted that this past Tuesday was the biggest day in the history of Xbox Live, with over two million players on the service simultaneously. Xbox spokesman Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb corroborated the achievement with a celebratory tweet earlier today.
Despite the fact that a large group of Xbox Live users suddenly found themselves shut out of the service this week, the allure of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's launch likely brought more gamers than ever onto Microsoft's servers. Between this and Activision making good on its boast of "the biggest entertainment launch of all time," Modern Warfare 2 has had quite a record-breaking week.

Meanwhile on PSN...
... players were unable to find matches thanks to server crashes... with even less copies of MW2 sold for the platform.
There are some people out there who don't like that I'm pointing this out. There are some people so biased that they will rationalize that this is actually a good thing, allowing them time to "savor" the single player campaign. There are people who prefer this be swept under the rug and will go out of their way to make sure that is the case... and oddly enough, they aren't even paid for those marketing efforts.
So, remember, there is a reason those of us who play on Xbox Live pay $50 a year for the privilege. Stability.
