Telstra yesterday launched the BigPond Elite Network Gateway, which is claimed to be the fastest device of its type in Australia.

Manufactured by NetComm, the Telstra BigPond Elite Network Gateway is aimed at users who can’t access fixed line ADSL or cable Internet services. It uses a wireless 3G HSPA+ connection over Telstra’s Next G network and provides "typical" download speeds of up to 8 megabits per second (Mbps).

The modem router has four Ethernet, allowing direct connection of PCs, and also features two USB ports to allow printers or hard drives to be shared over a network. The BigPond Elite Network Gateway has the latest 802.11n Wi-Fi technology along with standard 802.11b/g Wi-Fi.

"The new BigPond Elite Network Gateway enables users to enjoy the freedom of secure wireless high-speed Internet connectivity, without messy wires or access to fast fixed line broadband," said Jenny Wong, Executive Director Telstra Consumer.

"All that's required is power and Next G network coverage and consumers can quickly and easily access all their online must-haves, from instant messaging and email to YouTube," Young said.

The BigPond Elite Network Gateway is supposed to provide “typical real world download speeds of up to 8Mbps”, during the demonstration at the press launch in Sydney yesterday speeds of up to 11Mbps were achieved.

The BigPond Elite Network gateway works with Windows 7, XP and Vista and will support Apple Mac OS X 10.4, 10.5 and 10.6 systems from 1 December.

Telstra sells the BigPond Elite Network Gateway for $399 outright, but the device must be paired with a new or existing BigPond broadband account — the gateway will not work with BigPond prepaid accounts, nor will it accept regular Telstra mobile phone SIM cards even if a data allowance is available. Pricing is available from the BigPond Web site.

Selected Telstra customers may also be entitled to a $200 rebate on the BigPond Elite Network Gateway, in addition to a discount on Telstra access fees for the first 12 months of a 24-month contract plan.

trying for 3 years to get proper connection

I have been a telstra customer for over 20 years, I am 40 years old, and have had Bigpond for, well sice internet first came out. My previous last names were vukoman, talty, now doyle. I started with prepaid about 9 yars ago, in 2002, or 2003, I got adsl, under talty, ph 0293374343 1/765 old south head rd vaucluse, (I think it was adsl). We moved to 6/18 Serpentine parade vaucluse ph no either 0293374343 or 02 93375805, were a telstra 2 wire moden was sent and a technician, the computer worked well, fast and did not cut of when ph rang. We moved to 1/180 hopetoun ave, watsons bay, (mind you serpentine parade, and hopetoun ave had cables to buidings), were I asked for a technician but never sent.)
Since moving into 1/57 derby st vaucluse (A DUPLEX OWNED BY MY FAMILY FOR 42 years), we moved in 2007, feb or march, and as NO CABLE (IE: from street to house, had never been installed, we numerously, rang and waited all day for technicians, when they arrived, all say 3 or 4 said it was not their job to do that, it was foxtels, (we wanted CABLE, not satelite, but as Foxtel was the only people after waiting 2 months, we settled with satelite, as TELSTRA, nor BIGPOND, WOULD TO THIS DAY, DRILL or INSTALL CABLE FROM STREET TO HOUSE.
We then got bigpond, mind you it still cuts out when ph rings sometimes and until 2 weeks ago were paying $149.00 for bigpond,.
P MODEROBLEM: on 05/11.2009, YOU SENT OUT GIZMO TECHNICIANS, who were suppose to:
fix problems and install wireless device for a new laptop, and leave modem on my desktop. At A cost of $850.00, they took away TELSTRA MODEM as "GIZMO only use NETGEAR, even though BIGPONG SENT THEM, next problen, TELSTRA DOSENT SUPPORT NETGEAR MODEMS. Plus it worked for 5 minutes, both computers ie: with netgear dgn modem and netgear usb wirekless adapter. So Gizmo was comming out again, to find that (after I spent 4 and a half hours on phone to netgear, I was told it was the modem, as you could only connect with ethernet connected to modem, Gizmo came out, I eplained, situation, at another cost of $650.00 plus over $200.00 phone bills for phoning them and netgear, again it worked for 5 min then stopped. TO THIS DAY KNOW WE ORDERED A 21 ELITE USB FOR LAPTOP, RECEIVED IT TUESDAY, TO FIND OUT, THAT IT WONT WORK WITH NETGEAR, I NEED TESTRA/BIGPOND MODEM. AS I NEED AN TECHNICIAN TO COME OUT, SOMEONE IS PHONING MONDAY, AND CONSIDERING THIS IS NOT AT ALL MY FAULT, I WOULD LIKE OR NEED: "BIGPONG ELITE NETWORK GATEWAY MODEM/ROUTER" SO AS TO BE ABLE TO USE WIRELESS CONNECTION, AND HAVE LAPTOP WORKING, ON 3G 21 USB STICK, IE: SO i CAN USE MY DESKTOP, MAIN COMPUTER. We still need maybe a wireless adapter, so a second laptop can be used around house. Also we asked for 2 phones 1 cordless with caller display, answering machine, all features, the other phone a normal, can have 1or 2 phones, with caller display, answering service, all features, both to have loud , all features, can you resolve this problem, the phones can be rental, ph 0422578772, or home no if problem.
yours sincerely,
mrs michelle doyle

The Fujitsu LifeBook UH574 allowed for great mobility without being obnoxiously heavy or clunky. Its twelve hours of battery life did not disappoint.

The screen was particularly good. It is bright and visible from most angles, however heat is an issue, particularly around the Windows button on the front, and on the back where the battery housing is located.

My first impression after unboxing the Q702 is that it is a nice looking unit. Styling is somewhat minimalist but very effective. The tablet part, once detached, has a nice weight, and no buttons or switches are located in awkward or intrusive positions.
