SonicBlue, Intel to provide portable digital TV

Consumers who hate to miss their favorite television programs while on the road will be interested in the ReplayTV Portable Video Player, a product under joint development by SonicBlue Inc. and Intel Corp. Monday at the Intel Developer Forum in San Jose, California.
SonicBlue has an existing ReplayTV product that allows consumers to record television shows to their PC hard drives, and pause live television. The inclusion of Intel's XScale processors for portable mobile devices will allow ReplayTV to scale down to a pocket-sized device, the companies said.
Intel is planning to supply SonicBlue with reference designs and hardware building blocks from Intel's Emerging Platforms Lab. SonicBlue will be responsible for creating the final product, which is expected to be available in 2003.
Users will be able to transfer digital content between their portable ReplayTV devices and the existing set-top ones, and play a wide variety of file formats including MP3 music.
