Foxtel to broadcast 3D TV in 2011

Foxtel intends to broadcast 3D television signals in 2011, tech blog Gizmodo reports. “Foxtel has been closely monitoring 3D developments since January of 2009 and has an active program for 3D broadcasting in its Engineering Development Labs,” according to a statement by Foxtel CEO Kim Williams. “3D is an exciting development in broadcasting, and Foxtel HD set-top-units have already carried 3D signals in our premises with terrific picture clarity. Foxtel will continue to run laboratory trials on 3D transmissions over the next year.”
Test broadcasts of 3D signals to customers will not occur for at least another year, and no information on pricing has been revealed. “I expect that Foxtel will bring its first test broadcasts in 3D to subscribers in 2011 when full product details will be revealed," Williams said. "It will be an exciting addition to our range of high quality HD products which now encompasses the most comprehensive offering in Australia with 15 24-hour HD channels." Watching 3D broadcasts requires a compatible television set and special viewing glasses.

3D Foxtel is going to be very expensive. The existing service is not good value as it is. You are paying to see at least 10 to 18 minutes of advertising an hour on most channels which is a ripoff, not to mention the constant replays. Foxtel is aiming to launch 3D at near $20 per month on top of existing subscriptions and you will have to have the IQ 2 to even get a look in. The info I got was that you will pay big time for the privlige of 3D along with even more advertising.
If you want to pay to watch advertising Foxtel is the way to go.
