MS Word tip: Quickly add filler text to your document

Whether you're putting together a mock-up document or learning Word's formatting features, filler text can come in handy

Ever need to add some filler text to a Word document? You know, the "lorem ipsum" stuff you routinely see in document mock-ups, presentation materials, and the like.

There's a secret Word shortcut that makes this surprisingly easy. Just type (or copy and paste) either of the two following lines and then press Enter:

=rand()

=lorem()

The first one will generate three paragraphs' worth of random text, while the second produces three paragraphs of the aforementioned Lorem Ipsum gibberish. You can repeat as necessary to add more filler text to your document.

Didn't work? You may need to venture into Word's settings to enable a certain setting. Here's how to do so in Word 2007:

1. Click the Office Button, then click Word Options, Proofing, AutoCorrect Options.

2. Enable the checkbox next to Replace text as you type.

LIFEBOOK UH574

The Fujitsu LifeBook UH574 allowed for great mobility without being obnoxiously heavy or clunky. Its twelve hours of battery life did not disappoint.

STYLISTIC Q702

The screen was particularly good. It is bright and visible from most angles, however heat is an issue, particularly around the Windows button on the front, and on the back where the battery housing is located.

STYLISTIC Q702

My first impression after unboxing the Q702 is that it is a nice looking unit. Styling is somewhat minimalist but very effective. The tablet part, once detached, has a nice weight, and no buttons or switches are located in awkward or intrusive positions.
