Adidas augmented reality shoe brings gaming to your... feet?

Adidas' new Augmented Reality shoe hits stores in San Francisco this week, introducing browser-based gaming to footwear. Or at least we think that's what it's doing -- it's hard to understand just what's going on without actually having the shoe for ourselves.
Based on this promotional video, it looks like you have to physically take the shoe off and hold it up to your computer's webcam to activate the gaming part of the shoe -- which kind of defeats the whole purpose of shoes, as they're mostly supposed to go on your feet.
Nevertheless, our curiosity is piqued -- so we called the local Champs sports retailer to find out if they had the shoe in stores yet (as claimed by their website). We were told the shoes are coming in this week, but the sales associate has "never heard of" the Augmented Reality shoe before and wasn't sure if the store would be able to offer demos of the gaming portion of the shoe to customers.
