Canon has announced a firmware update for its EOS 5D Mark II digital SLR camera. The update upgrades the camera's movie-recording capabilities and according to the company improves audio, video and display functions.

More frame rate settings have been added for shooting video. Cinema (24 frames per second) and PAL broadcast (25fps) options have been added to the camera's existing 30fps, 1080p Full HD recording capability.

The firmware update also adds manual adjustment of sound recording levels (64 levels) and a histogram display for shooting movies with manual exposure. Users of the EOS 5D Mark II will also be able to shoot movies using shutter priority and aperture priority modes. Canon also claims that a glitch involving communication between the camera and attached lens after the manual sensor has been cleaned has now been corrected.

A preview of what’s to come is available on Canon’s Web site, where an action sports photographer has shot a short film titled “I Love My Friends” using the new firmware.

Users will be able to download the firmware at canon.com.au in mid-March

HP OfficeJet Pro 8730

I've had a multifunction printer in the office going on 10 years now. It was a neat bit of kit back in the day -- print, copy, scan, fax -- when printing over WiFi felt a bit like magic. It’s seen better days though and an upgrade’s well overdue. This HP OfficeJet Pro 8730 looks like it ticks all the same boxes: print, copy, scan, and fax. (Really? Does anyone fax anything any more? I guess it's good to know the facility’s there, just in case.) Printing over WiFi is more-or- less standard these days.

Ultimately, I think the Windows 10 environment is excellent for me as it caters for so many different uses. The inclusion of the Xbox app is also great for when you need some downtime too!

For me, the Xbox Play Anywhere is a great new feature as it allows you to play your current Xbox games with higher resolutions and better graphics without forking out extra cash for another copy. Although available titles are still scarce, but I’m sure it will grow in time.
