Tata Communications announces growth figures

Between '09 and '10, Tata’s gross revenues grew 5 percent for its voice business & 10 percent for its data services business

Telecom company Tata Communications has announced record growth for business volumes despite the recession and continued investments in global infrastructure, services and emerging market initiatives.

This was revealed at its first Global Media and Analysts Summit in London yesterday (4 March).

The company's international wholesale voice minutes grew 33 per cent from 24 to 32 billion minutes from 2009 to 2010, extending its lead as the world's largest international wholesale voice carrier. Also, its global data centre footprint now has 42 facilities worldwide (with the latest addition of the Cape Town data centre in South Africa) that accommodate more than 10,000 racks and a million sq ft of space.

In addition, the company announced that the volume of Internet backbone traffic going over its global IP network increased 66 per cent and now carries more than 1,600 petabits (A petabit is one quadrillion binary digits and is one thousand terabits) of traffic globally per month, up from 960 petabits in 2009.

Revenues and investments

Between 2009 and 2010, Tata Communications' gross revenues grew five per cent for its voice business and 10 per cent for its data services business. In a recession year, the communications company grew its global workforce by 600 to 6400 employees, a 10 per cent increase over the last 12 months.

In terms of investments, the company announced, Tata Communications invested more than US$2 billion over the last four years in building infrastructure and new service capabilities as well as entering new markets. In 2008, the company announced an investment of US$2 billion over its financial year 2009-2011 and during the first two years of the three-year period, Tata Communications has already invested nearly US$1.2 billion.

HP OfficeJet Pro 8730

A smarter way to print for busy small business owners, combining speedy printing with scanning and copying, making it easier to produce high quality documents and images at a touch of a button.

HP OfficeJet Pro 8730

I've had a multifunction printer in the office going on 10 years now. It was a neat bit of kit back in the day -- print, copy, scan, fax -- when printing over WiFi felt a bit like magic. It’s seen better days though and an upgrade’s well overdue. This HP OfficeJet Pro 8730 looks like it ticks all the same boxes: print, copy, scan, and fax. (Really? Does anyone fax anything any more? I guess it's good to know the facility’s there, just in case.) Printing over WiFi is more-or- less standard these days.

Ultimately, I think the Windows 10 environment is excellent for me as it caters for so many different uses. The inclusion of the Xbox app is also great for when you need some downtime too!

For me, the Xbox Play Anywhere is a great new feature as it allows you to play your current Xbox games with higher resolutions and better graphics without forking out extra cash for another copy. Although available titles are still scarce, but I’m sure it will grow in time.
