LG's 3D glasses to cost just $79: report
- — 25 March, 2010 11:42
LG's active shutter 3D glasses will cost $79, significantly less than models from competing manufacturers like Panasonic and Samsung.
According to a report by CNET, LG will sell active-shutter glasses designed for use with 3D TVs for just $79. This is likely to be significantly cheaper than 3D glasses from several other manufacturers.
Prices for active-shutter 3D glasses from Panasonic, Sony and Samsung have not yet been confirmed, but a single pair of rechargeable glasses is expected to cost $150- $200, with replaceable-battery glasses such as Samsung's budget model costing slightly less.
3D televisions require the use of active-shutter glasses to create the simulated 3D effect, and purchasing extra sets of glasses could significantly drive up the cost of bringing 3D to your lounge room. Currently, active-shutter 3D glasses have no industry standard meaning glasses may not be able to be shared between television sets from different brands.
A spokesperson from LG's PR agency said the company currently had no date set for the release of 3D televisions in Australia.
