Television manufacturer LG Electronics and has partnered with Telstra to bring the BigPond Movies online video download service to LG’s upcoming LCD, LED and plasma TVs.
LG’s 2010 TV range will be the first in the Australian market to come equipped with embedded access to BigPond Movies, and will also offer access to other online content including YouTube. The integrated BigPond Movies service will give viewers access to the latest Hollywood titles, with new release movies as well as TV series available. It will be followed by video on demand services for news and sport programming — with music and games content in the works. Movies can be rented for a week at a time, with playback possible at any time during the seven-day period.
“The Australian market is a huge focus for LG Electronics, so we wanted to ensure we partnered with a premier provider of content,” said William Cho, LG's managing director. “This is just the first step in bringing video to households over the Internet, directly to TVs. Chris Taylor, director of Telstra Media, said that the move was in response to the overwhelming demand from Australians for more Internet-enabled television services. “The viewing landscape is changing and with our huge range of entertainment, much of it exclusive, we’re in a position with LG to make the most of this TV revolution,” he said. “Internet delivered video will provide us the opportunity to bring our first-class video assets to life in the lounge rooms of Australian homes and we’re excited to be working with LG on this milestone in our journey to deliver BigPond TV.”
