Qantas launches mobile phone check-in service

Qantas makes handset-based check-in a reality

Qantas has launched a mobile check-in service for domestic flights. Qantas customers will be able to check-in to their domestic flights remotely via Web-enabled mobiles from July when the service starts in Perth. Customers can check-in between 24 hours and 45 minutes prior to the departure of their flight.

Customers log in via Qantas.com and have a 2D bar code sent to their mobile, which can then be scanned at the gate to their flight.

There are currently 20 mobile check-in ports in Qantas airport terminals across Australia, with five more to be set up in the coming months.

Virgin Blue launched its own mobile check-in service last week, dubbed Check-Mate. Virgin Blue’s service is available for flights between Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
