Foxtel CEO Kim Williams and Microsoft Australia's head of Entertainment and Devices David McLean seal the deal to bring Foxtel to Xbox Live before the end of the year.
Australian Xbox 360 owners will be able to receive Foxtel television via Xbox Live thanks to new service unveiled today. Foxtel by Xbox Live — which will launch "later on in the calendar year" according to a media release — will let people use the Foxtel service without a dedicated set-top box from the pay TV company.
Channels like Fox Sports, Discovery, Nickelodeon, Disney, MTV, and others are expected to be available via the service. Pricing is yet to be revealed. Other features, like video-on-demand movies and TV series, will be available on Foxtel by Xbox Live. The service will be available Australia-wide and will require a Foxtel by Xbox Live subscription and an Xbox Live Gold subscription. “Foxtel by Xbox Live will provide our 1.6 million subscribing households, as well as new customers, a transformative way of receiving and enjoying Foxtel over the internet,” said Foxtel Managing Director Kim Williams in a statement.
Microsoft has previously partnered with broadcaster BSkyB in the UK, and CANAL+ in France.
