Ericsson responsible for State of Origin 3D broadcast tech

Ericsson technology can be found behind the scenes at the State of Origin Full HD 3D broadcast

The Nine Network is using Ericsson technology to run the behind-the-scenes 3D video processing at tonight’s State of Origin match. The 3D broadcast is a world first for free-to-air TV.

“Bringing 3D to terrestrial television presents obvious challenges in terms of available bandwidth, so we were pleased to be able to draw upon the knowledge and expertise of the Ericsson team to deliver this revolutionary coverage using the latest H.264 MPEG-4 encoding to rugby league fans throughout the country,” said Nine's manager of broadcast technology, Charles Sevior.

Tonight's State of Origin 3D broadcast uses Ericsson products like the fgb_101_749 and fgb_101_749 to compress 3D footage on the fly without compromising video quality. At the same time, other Ericsson video processing technology allows the broadcast to be displayed on 3D and regular 2D televisions at the same time.

Since buying video compression specialist Tandberg Television three years ago, the company has since signed deals with ESPN to produce the video processing solutions for its ESPN 3D channel and will also work on the upcoming 2010 FIFA World Cup.

The Fujitsu LifeBook UH574 allowed for great mobility without being obnoxiously heavy or clunky. Its twelve hours of battery life did not disappoint.

STYLISTIC Q702

The screen was particularly good. It is bright and visible from most angles, however heat is an issue, particularly around the Windows button on the front, and on the back where the battery housing is located.

STYLISTIC Q702

My first impression after unboxing the Q702 is that it is a nice looking unit. Styling is somewhat minimalist but very effective. The tablet part, once detached, has a nice weight, and no buttons or switches are located in awkward or intrusive positions.
