Vodafone will sponsor the upcoming Ashes series, making the announcement on 2 June under a bevy of red at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).
Key members of the current Australian team turned out for the launch, including captain Ricky Ponting and vice-captain Michael Clarke, with the latter being named Vodafone’s new ambassador.
Vodafone Hutchison Australia CEO, Nigel Dews, said that the telco's customers will be able to receive cricket content and behind the scenes footage during the Ashes series, which begins in November.
“The sponsorship of the Vodafone Ashes Series represents a fantastic opportunity for more Australian cricket fans to get closer to the game than ever before. We're proud to continue our sponsorship of the team and the new series with our Vodafone brand, giving our seven million customers on Vodafone and 3 access to exclusive cricket content so they never have to miss a ball or a wicket,” he said.
Clarke said that he was happy to see that larger numbers would be able to access the all important end-of-year series, which Australia looks to reclaim after going down 2-1 to England in the series last year.
“The team are training phenomenally hard in the lead up to the Vodafone Ashes Series and we’re more than ready to take on England in November. This is such an exciting time for Australian cricket and we’re delighted more people across Australia will be sharing that excitement with the team,” Clarke said.
The first Test in the Vodafone Ashes series will take place at The Gabba on November 25.
