New details on Call of Duty: Black Ops at E3 2010

The irrepressible (and potty-mouthed) Eminem added an extra dash of hype to the Black Ops preview.
If you’re not excited about Call of Duty: Black Ops, you damn well should be.
Attendees of Activision’s star-studded E3 party saw some of the first footage of Black Ops, developed by Treyarch, accompanied by more pyrotechnics than Chinese New Year and the handover of Hong Kong to China in 1997.
The game is so badass, Eminem was hired to sing for it.
The Black Ops preview predominantly showed an aerial combat scene set in Laos in 1968. The game has already been confirmed to be set during the Cold War in various locations, including Vietnam. As hinted by the blazing flames used during the preview, Black Ops will feature a lot of big explosions.
The game will be focused on ‘setting history straight’, as evidenced by the footage of military files with a a bunch of lines blacked out.
The aerial combat wasn’t just a “I’m riding on a chopper and shooting at enemies” kind of mission (ala Call of Duty: World at War). From what we gathered from the footage, you actually get to steer the airborne vehicle while blasting away pesky boats and soldiers.
There was no mention of Call of Duty: Modern Wafrfare 3 at the event but no surprises there, considering the rights to the franchise are still being disputed over in court by the former heads of Infinity Ward.
Nonetheless, judging from the vociferous cheers from the audience, the hype around the Call of Duty series is still alive and kicking. As Eminem would say, “make some mother***ing noise!”
Call of Duty: Black Ops is due out November 9.
