The ABC's iView catch-up television service is now available on Sony's Internet-connected BRAVIA televisions and Blu-ray players.

iView launched in mid-2008 and has been available on Sony’s PlayStation 3 console following an update in late 2009. The service was originally slated to appear on Sony TVs in mid-May. There are hundreds of programs available from ABC's four digital TV channels on the iView platform, including regularly updated content from the recently launched ABC News 24 channel.

ABC TV’s Head of Multiplatform, Arul Baskaran, says the launch marks an exciting moment for ABC TV: “iView’s move to Sony’s IPTV service sees the merging of two great entertainment platforms — with lots of benefits. As more and more people are choosing iView as a way to enjoy ABC TV’s great content, we want to make accessing the service as easy as possible — which is what this joint project with Sony delivers.”

Sony is confident the iView service will be successful. “We’re anticipating iView will be one of our most popular BRAVIA Internet Video channels," said Paul Colley, Sony Australia's Technology Communications Manager.

While iView on PC offers unmetered access with some ISPs, iView on BRAVIA TVs will be metered due to Bravia Internet Video's proprietary content server.
