Navman Wireless launches GPS vehicle tracking for the iPhone

Navman Wireless claims it is the first Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) provider in the world to launch an iPhone app specifically designed for GPS vehicle tracking.
Free for all current Navman Wireless customers using OnlineAVL2 software, the app was developed by New Zealand's Pocket Logistics and allows a user to track the exact location of the vehicles in their fleet in Google Maps, as well as replay a vehicle's most recent journey. It also allows users to view a particular vehicle's latest activity with address, date, time and speed details.
Ian Daniel, Navman Wireless vice-president for Asia-Pacific, said there was a demand from Australian customers for an app tailored for the iPhone. "The iPhone is extremely popular in Australia with business owners and managers. Without having to carry a computer with them, they can now get the vehicle location information and communication capabilities wherever they are."
"For owner operators in the service industry, it means they will be able to take calls from customers, answer queries about arrival times accurately and then message field staff and route vehicles no matter where they are."
Navman Wireless customers can also message staff and send routes to vehicles directly from the iPhone app, but a M-Nav 760 integrated vehicle tracking, job dispatch and satellite navigation system must be installed.
