Optus launches on-the-road traffic information service

Optus has released a new national traffic service called Optus Trafficview, which will give users a real-time view of traffic conditions.
The subscription-based service combines data collected from the Optus mobile network with Cellular Floating Vehicle Data technology to send regular traffic and incident alerts, overviews and alternate route information.
"Optus Trafficview enables us to use our network intelligence to directly benefit our customers while they’re on the road," said Optus head of digital products Mark Mulder. "The service analyses a combination of Optus 2G and 3G mobile data, looking at how fast or slow our customers are moving over time and then comparing this information to road networks."
Currently only available in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne, Optus is offering its mobile customers a free 14-day trial of the Trafficview service. After the trial period, access to the service will cost $3.99 per month for up to 1000 SMS alerts, or 55 cents per alert if you wish to pay as you go. More information is available from the Trafficview Web site.
