Is Telstra's Australia's best mobile carrier? According to GoodGearGuide's readers it is, winning 38 per cent of the votes in our latest online poll.

We asked our readers "What company do you consider to be the best Australian mobile carrier?" and ran the poll for two weeks in our mobile phone section.

Telstra was a clear winner ahead of rivals Vodafone Hutchison Australia (VHA) and Optus, which polled 23 per cent and 16 per cent respectively.

Richard Branson's Optus subsidiary Virgin Mobile racked up 15 per cent of the vote to sit in fourth place, while a further five per cent voted 'other'.

The range of quality smartphones on offer from Telstra — the iPhone 4, HTC Desire and HTC Wildfire are all sold by the telco — could be one factor. Its Next G network also has a well-deserved reputation for good speed and coverage.
