Tech gadget retrieval service launched

A new service designed to help Australians recover their lost gadgets has been launched today.
Lost Property Dept provides users who have registered and paid for its service pack with labels to attach onto any gadget which they fear may be lost. If the gadget is lost, users log on to the service and provide their contact details. If the property is found, the finder is able to call the number located on the label so the item can be recovered.
The finder receives $20 for their efforts, paid by the user who reclaims their item. The user also has to pay the additional shipping costs and a $15 handling fee.
"I noticed a gap in the market for this type of service after discovering the high amount of items that are left unclaimed at places such as airports and taxi depots," said Lost Property Dept founder Grant Lee. "There is insurance available, but that doesn't give you back the original items with the data that you need.:
A recent Newspoll survey revealed that 46 per cent of adult Australians lose more than one valuable item each year. Mobile phones and car and house keys are at the top of the list, with more than 2 million mobile phones going missing in Australia every year – equating to 548 per day.
The Lost Property Dept pack comes with 15 labels, two key rings and two-year subscription for $29.95. A renewed subscription following two years comes at a reduced rate of $9.95.
