HP launches inkjet printer with integrated 7in Android tablet

HP will release a multifunction inkjet printer that uses a detachable 7in, iPad-style touchscreen tablet device as its interface. The HP PhotoSmart eStation All-in-One has all the features of HP's ePrint service — such as remote printing via e-mail — in addition to the removable tablet.
It is a surprise development from HP, which has been developing an iPad rival called Slate. The HP Slate was originally set to be released with Windows 7, until reports emerged that HP found the operating system too slow and was considering WebOS. The HP PhotoSmart eStation All-in-One's tablet allows users to browse the Web, as well as run HP's suite of ePrint applications.
HP designer Ryan Wilday told PC World that the detachable tablet — which will be called the eStation Zeen in Australia — runs a version of the Android operating system. The tablet will not be sold separately from the printer. The HP PhotoSmart eStation All-in-One will go on sale at the start of November — initially exclusively through Harvey Norman — and will be priced at $699.
