Qualcomm, MP3.com to build wireless music applications
- — 08 February, 2001 10:25
Current technology for portable MP3 players typically requires the user to upload digital music files from a computer with music stored on it, or from a device connected to the Internet. MP3.com intends to use Qualcomm's Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless (BREW) applications platform to produce software allowing a portable device to download music from a mobile connection.
A device capable of a wireless music download would be more like a radio than a CD player, and may rid portable players of some of their more expensive components. MP3 players tend to need large quantities of flash memory or a hard drive to hold a suitable number of songs.
