AVG Launches New Security Tools for SMBs

AVG is targeting SMB customers with new suites designed to make online security and data protection easier to manage.

AVG may not have the brand recognition of McAfee or Symantec, but with two decades of experience and over 110 million customers it's no slouch in security either. Now, AVG is attempting to establish itself more with the small and medium business community by introducing AVG Internet Security 2011 Business Edition, and AVG Antivirus 2011 Business Edition.

The SMB market is generally between a proverbial rock and a hard place when it comes to computer security. These businesses have many of the same online security and data protection needs as large companies, but lack the budget and personnel to have in-house expertise in the form of a dedicated IT department, or even a lone information security admin.

"At AVG, we recognize that most small business owners are not IT experts, and need an anti-virus and internet security solution for their business that provides maximum protection and is easy to administrate," said J.R. Smith, CEO, AVG Technologies. "That's why we designed AVG Internet Security 2011 Business Edition and AVG Anti-Virus 2011 Business Edition to be the easiest to use and manage on the market."

The new suite of business security products from AVG provide small and medium businesses with the protection they need, delivered in a way that virtually manages itself so the business owner and workers can focus on more important things--like actually running the business.

AVG's business security solutions are used by small and medium sized businesses worldwide; including Kaseya, leading global provider of IT Systems Management software based in Lausanne, Switzerland.

"Kaseya currently has a significant number of deployments of AVG integrated into the Kaseya product line allowing our customers a "single pane of glass" to view all aspects of the environments they manage," said Jeff Keyes of Kaseya. "The integration includes monitoring and remediation for component status, signature versions, scans, and many other aspects of the AVG product. We are looking forward to the improvements in AVG 2011."

While the SMB market is often ignored, the AVG products will actually have some competition. Microsoft recently made its Microsoft Security Essentials antimalware product available for free for up to 10 PCs for SMBs, and products like Panda Cloud Internet Protection provide a compelling alternative for SMBs to consider, including the potential for security to be outsourced to experts as a managed service.

The AVG products are competitively priced. A one year, five seat license for AVG Internet Security Business Edition 2011 starts at $247.99, while a one year, two seat license for AVG Antivirus 2011 Business Edition starts at $89.99.

HP OfficeJet Pro 8730

I've had a multifunction printer in the office going on 10 years now. It was a neat bit of kit back in the day -- print, copy, scan, fax -- when printing over WiFi felt a bit like magic. It’s seen better days though and an upgrade’s well overdue. This HP OfficeJet Pro 8730 looks like it ticks all the same boxes: print, copy, scan, and fax. (Really? Does anyone fax anything any more? I guess it's good to know the facility’s there, just in case.) Printing over WiFi is more-or- less standard these days.

Windows 10 / HP Spectre x360

Ultimately, I think the Windows 10 environment is excellent for me as it caters for so many different uses. The inclusion of the Xbox app is also great for when you need some downtime too!

Windows 10 / Lenovo Yoga 910

For me, the Xbox Play Anywhere is a great new feature as it allows you to play your current Xbox games with higher resolutions and better graphics without forking out extra cash for another copy. Although available titles are still scarce, but I’m sure it will grow in time.
