LG Optimus 7Q smartphone (preview)

The LG Optimus 7Q is exclusive to Telstra, and is the only Windows Phone 7 smartphone at launch to feature a physical QWERTY keyboard.

LG's Optimus 7Q has almost the same specifications as the LG Optimus 7 with the exception of a smaller screen, and a physical, slide-out QWERTY keyboard — hence the Q in its name.

Exclusively available through Telstra, the LG Optimus 7Q offers almost the same features as the Optimus 7 — the smartphone is powered by a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, and it has 16GB of internal memory and 512MB of RAM. However, it has a slightly smaller 3.5in display (the same size as the iPhone 4's screen) compared to the Optimus 7's 3.8in display.

Like all Windows Phone 7 devices, the Optimus 7Q lacks external storage, so there is no microSD card slot for extra memory.

The LG Optimus 7Q will be available on Telstra's first unlimited consumer cap plan from 21 October. The $129 cap plan includes unlimited standard national calls, SMS and MMS and 3GB of data.

For work use, Microsoft Word and Excel programs pre-installed on the device are adequate for preparing short documents.

LIFEBOOK UH574

The Fujitsu LifeBook UH574 allowed for great mobility without being obnoxiously heavy or clunky. Its twelve hours of battery life did not disappoint.

STYLISTIC Q702

The screen was particularly good. It is bright and visible from most angles, however heat is an issue, particularly around the Windows button on the front, and on the back where the battery housing is located.

STYLISTIC Q702

My first impression after unboxing the Q702 is that it is a nice looking unit. Styling is somewhat minimalist but very effective. The tablet part, once detached, has a nice weight, and no buttons or switches are located in awkward or intrusive positions.
