Kogan extends free HDMI cable offer indefinitely

JB Hi-Fi TV buyers can score a free HDMI cable from Kogan by showing their receipt

Online retailer Kogan has extended its offer of a free HDMI cable to 'tricked' JB Hi-Fi customers indefinitely. The campaign, which was originally intended to run until March 31, involves Kogan sending out a HDMI cable free of charge to any customer that presents proof of purchase of a TV from JB Hi-Fi any time this year. Kogan says JB Hi-Fi and other retail stores charge customers too much for TV accessories, claiming the prices of HDMI cables are "hideously expensive" and hide "ridiculous mark-ups".

Kogan was unable to supply numbers on the number of free HDMI cables redeemed so far, but pointed to positive consumer feedback on its Facebook page and blog. Kogan's original Facebook post has almost a hundred 'likes' and comments, and the blog post has nearly 400 retweets and recommendations. The Kogan free HDMI cable offer now has no finishing date, and is available to anyone who has purchased a TV at JB Hi-Fi since the start of 2011.

According to the Kogan blog, "The campaign has been tremendously successful, but there is a lot of work left to do to help Australians save their hard earned money. We are trying to bring the overpriced cable rort to the public's attention in a bid to force the big retailers to cut out this dodgy practice.

"Unfortunately, Australian shoppers are still being asked to pay an arm and a leg for a cable when they should only be spending a few dollars. Big bricks-and-mortar retailers need to know it's not OK to trick people into spending too much on overpriced accessories like HDMI cables."

LIFEBOOK UH574

The Fujitsu LifeBook UH574 allowed for great mobility without being obnoxiously heavy or clunky. Its twelve hours of battery life did not disappoint.

STYLISTIC Q702

The screen was particularly good. It is bright and visible from most angles, however heat is an issue, particularly around the Windows button on the front, and on the back where the battery housing is located.

STYLISTIC Q702

My first impression after unboxing the Q702 is that it is a nice looking unit. Styling is somewhat minimalist but very effective. The tablet part, once detached, has a nice weight, and no buttons or switches are located in awkward or intrusive positions.
