In an interview with the Wall Street Journal's Walt Mossberg, Stringer discussed a wide range of topics including the latest trend of tablets. Early in the discussion he said: "It always puzzles me. Why would I make Apple the best camera?"

Sony doesn't currently supply camera sensors for any Apple products, specifically the iPhone 4 and the iPad 2, fuelling speculation that Sony will be supplying camera sensors for the upcoming iPhone 5. Curiously, both Sony and Apple declined to comment on the matter.

Apple's iPhone 5 is still months away from becoming a reality, but rumours around the tech world suggest it will feature a larger 4in screen that could extend from edge-to-edge, an aluminium rear rather than the current glass backing of the iPhone 4, along with the same dual-core A5 processor used in the iPad 2.
