Speaking to European and Australian press yesterday, Michael Denny, Sony's Vice President of Sony Worldwide Studios Europe confirmed that, as far as he knew, PlayStation Vita would be region free. This would allow gamers to pick up titles from anywhere in the world and play them on the handheld — including import titles which don't make it to the US.
The PlayStation 3 is also region free, as is the PSP, except for UMD movies. Nintendo handhelds prior to the 3DS were also region free, though the company's home consoles have always been region locked.
Good news for handheld gamers who like to travel, then. Also good news for import gamers. Or those who want to pick up a Vita from a territory other than their own if it releases early. Good news all round, really.
