Brisbane’s number one (and only) gaming-and-drinking establishment, the Mana Bar, will spawn an interstate venue in the coming month, with the second gamer hangout opening in central Melbourne on July 16.
The Brisbane Mana Bar, reportedly “the first of its kind” anywhere in the world, was opened in March 2010. It lets patrons mix hard drinking — the bar has a unique, gaming-themed cocktail menu with tipples like Princess Peach and the Health Potion — with hardcore gaming. The new bar will have seven LCD TVs running Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii gaming consoles, with a wide range of classic and new release games.
The Melbourne bar, in the trendy inner city suburb of Fitzroy, will also have a zone dedicated to sponsor Turtle Beach, displaying the brand’s gaming headsets and peripherals. The weekend of the launch will include giveaways, special guests, hourly prizes and a hands-on with an as-yet unannounced console game.
Mana Bar creator Guy 'Yug' Blomberg told PC World Australia that he was keen to expand the business, with Sydney possibly next on the agenda: “Believe me, I want to head to Sydney. Right now though, the focus is on opening Melbourne — one city at a time.”
