The Cold-war spy thriller A Lonely Place for Dying has now recorded over one million official downloads on BitTorrent via the VODO distribution network. TorrentFreak reports that the movie, which was made with a $200,000 budget, has even surpassed Source Code and X-Men: First Class in popularity over the last two-week period.

The popular download is only part one of what will be a five-part serialised release. The makers hope that donations from downloaders will help them fund a theatrical release. VODO has previously helped promote and distribute the independent Australian film The Tunnel, a horror/thriller that was set in Sydney and shot with an estimated budget of $135,000.

Popular BitTorrent client uTorrent has also helped play a role in the distribution of these independent films as it offers users the chance to download featured films as part of the program's installation. uTorrent also allows you to install the VODO app, which provides an easy way to then download all of the service's independent BitTorrent releases.

You can find a full list of releases on VODO's Web site.
