Major smartphone manufacturer HTC has made a 'strategic investment' in the Beats By Dr. Dre audio company — partly responsible for celebrity-endorsed headphone and audio products like the Beats by Dr. Dre, PowerBeats, JustBeats by Justin Bieber, and Heartbeats by Lady Gaga. While it won't affect Beats' partnership with other companies like HP or Monster, the investment will mean 'sound innovations' on upcoming HTC smartphones and tablets.
Beats by Dr. Dre's existing audio partnership with HP in its laptops and desktops, like the HP Envy 14 Beats Edition, has seen an emphasis on the quality of integrated speakers in devices. It is likely that the Beats-HTC partnership will result in improved internal loudspeakers in HTC smartphones and tablets, with tailored Beats electronic audio equalisers also possible.
According to Jimmy Iovine, co-founder of Beats, "the HTC and Beats by Dr. Dre partnership is an opportunity for two world-class companies to redefine the smart phone industry and define the future.” HTC's CEO Peter Chou was similarly enthused: “Beats is a unique sound experience that is much more than headphones. The Beats team knows what music quality is and we are very excited to be partnering with them.” Despite HTC's investment, Beats will continue to operate autonomously.
