Telstra's EasyTouch Discovery 3 mobile phone
Telstra has launched a 3G mobile phone specifically marketed at seniors and older Australians, the EasyTouch Discovery 3.

The telco claims it worked on the design of the EasyTouch Discovery 3 for over six months, with the main focus being a simple menu for ease of use.
"Our customers told us that they wanted a simpler menu for easier navigation, and our new model gives them exactly that, so older Australians can get to the core functions they need, quickly and with minimal fuss," said Telstra consumer marketing director, Maryanne Tsiatsias.
The Telstra EasyTouch Discovery 3 is a flip phone that has extra large buttons, a large font, and audible key tones when dialling phone numbers to aid hearing impaired consumers. The handset allows users to view both missed calls and new messages by simply opening the phone, negating the need to browse through menus to access these core functions.
The EasyTouch Discovery 3 includes a 3-megapixel camera, an MP3 player, hands-free speakerphone capability and a microSD card slot for extra storage. The phone is also Blue Tick rated, which means it delivers enhanced reception and coverage in regional and rural areas of Australia. The Telstra Easy Touch Discovery 3 is available now for $240 outright, or $0 upfront on a $20 Telstra plan.

A lot of Telstra equipment is good but the price is very high. Less than $100 would be a fair price for this phone. On the other hand, the high price may encourage lower priced phones from other suppliers. There certainly is a growing seniors market where dexterity, sight and hearing fade with time.
I queried Nokia on such a phone not too long ago but they were not interested.

My dad bought one to replace his 10 year old Nokia 6310, and I had a go at trying to turn off the predictive text for him.
This is an atrocious phone to use, it's slow, non-intuitive and you can't disable the useless predictive text feature. The contruction of the phone is also flimsy and cheap feeling. I think it's an insult to older people to say this phone suits them, it's that bad.
