The local release of Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 has been set for March 23 across Australia and New Zealand.
According to THQ, the local distributor for Capcom products, the PC version of the game is expected to soon follow the console release.
Set during the events of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis that were originally released on the Sony PlayStation in 1998 and 1999 respectively, Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City is a third person team-based shooter in the vein of the Resident Evil Outbreak game released on the PlayStation 2 in 2003.
Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City marks the first time a team-based Resident Evil game can be played online in Australia and New Zealand, as the PAL version of Resident Evil Outbreak had its online support removed.
With the announcement of the local launch comes the confirmation of another online competitive multiplayer mode, dubbed Heroes Mode, which will be included with the game. In Heroes Mode, players will be able to compete in four vs. four matches with classic Resident Evil characters including Leon. S Kennedy, Jill Valentine, Hunk and Ada Wong.
Players compete against each other in a battle for survival by either assuming the role of the good or bad guys, and need to keep an eye out for zombies and B.O.Ws while attempting to defeat the opposing team.
