iPads seized in China after trademark dispute

Retailers in the Chinese city of Shijiazhuang have had stocks of iPads seized due to an ongoing copyright dispute in the country.
Associated Press reports that an official in the city, which is just to the southwest of Beijing, said that Apple's tablet was being seized after a court decided that the iPad was infringing on the trademark of Shenzhen Proview Technology.
Shenzhen Proview Technology registered the 'iPad' trademark in China in 2001 though Apple maintains that it bought the rights to use the trademark from a company affiliated with Proview. However, a Chinese court rejected Apple's claim to the iPad name last year and Proview registered a complaint with the Chinese government last week.
Apple appealed the court ruling late last month but it appears that the Chinese government has given officials the go-ahead to seize iPads from retailers in one city at least.
