iPad 3 'will be 4G ready' - report

New claims that LTE chip is present in next-generation iPad

The third-generation iPad will include 4G LTE (long term evolution) connectivity, according to a new report.

iMore claims that the source that correctly called the 7 March announcement date has provided the information and also insisted that the iPad that Apple announces tomorrow will have a quad-core processor, despite some recent doubts that this would be the case.

The report states that LTE is "good to go" though given that there are a number of different 4G technologies being used the world over - precious few of them on any scale in the UK at the moment, unfortunately - it remains to be seen which networks will be able to offer this feature to iPad 3 customers.

Opinion: Should the iPad 3 support LTE?

4G LTE capability in the third-generation iPad has long been discussed by Apple-watchers, though fears over its affect on battery life have led some to rule it out. Others believe that 4G capabilities would be more likely to be included in the next iPhone rather than the next iPad.
