Apple: iPad pre-orders 'off the chart'

If you want to get your hands on a new iPad on Friday and you haven't already pre-ordered one, it looks as if getting in line at your nearest Apple Store is the only option left open to you.
USA Today reported over the weekend that Apple had said that the number of new iPads set aside for pre-ordering customers had sold out.
"Customer response to the new iPad has been off the charts and the quantity available for pre-order has been purchased. Customers can continue to order online and receive an estimated delivery date," Apple said in a statement.
Analysts had been predicting shortages of the new iPad, as happened with the iPad 2, with supply unable to match up with demand for several months at least.
The good news is that the new iPad models have the same price points as the previous models: The 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB Wi-Fi-only models will sell for £399, £479, and £559, respectively, while the corresponding Wi-Fi + 4G models will sell for £499, £579, and £659.
It'll officially launch on 16 March in the UK and several other countries, including Canada, the US, France, Germany, Switzerland, Japan, and Hong Kong. One week later it'll go on sale in 25 more countries.
