Amazon Kindle Fire 2 to rival Google Nexus 7

Amazon is reportedly planning to take on the Google Nexus 7 with its Kindle Fire 2 tablet.
The firm has places an order for two million units of the Kindle Fire 2 with a Taiwanese manufacturer, according to the China Times. Amazon will supposedly launch the tablet in August to 'counterattack' the Nexus 7. See also: Google Nexus 7 tablet vs Amazon Kindle Fire comparison review.
"Quanta has received the first wave of 2 million orders, Amazon has not yet Quanta to inform the second batch of shipments and estimated number." said the China Times.
Google's Nexus 7 tablet will ship from 19 July and offers a superior specification to the existing Kindle Fire for the same price of $199 in the US. The 8GB Nexus 7 is priced at £159 in the UK.
The Kindle Fire 2 will have a 7in screen with future 8.9in and 10in models possible. China Times said that Amazon will announce the Android tablet on 31 July.
It will have an upgraded specification to the original including a higher screen resolution, a metal case instead of plastic and better content in order to close the gap to the Apple iPad.
It is also thought that Apple will launch a 7.85-inch iPad Mini in October.
