Google Nexus 7 now shipping to Australia

Google's Nexus 7 Android tablet is now shipping to Australian consumers. The company has promised a ship date by Thursday 19 July for customers who pre-ordered the tablet before Friday 13 July.
The Google-branded but ASUS manufactured Nexus 7 device was officially unveiled last month at the company's I/O developers conference. It was initially stated to have a 2-3 week time frame for delivery.
Google released a statement this morning to clarify shipping details. The company cited "incredible demand" for the tablet and confirmed it expected to have all pre-orders processed and shipped by tomorrow.
"We’ve had incredible demand for our new Nexus 7 tablet and are shipping them as quickly as possible," read the statement. "We will have all orders placed through July 13 processed and shipped soon. Orders placed after July 13 will ship according to the quoted timeframe when you purchased and we will update you with a tracking number when we’ve shipped."
"All Nexus 7 8GB and Nexus 7 16GB orders will be fulfilled by the end of day on July 19 (AEST) and will arrive in 3-5 days."
For new customers who didn't pre-order the tablet, an update on Google's Play store notes that the 8GB version will ship in 3-5 business days, while the 16GB model will ship in 1-2 weeks.
Earlier this month,ASUS revealed that the 16GB model of the Nexus 7 will be sold in Australia through Harvey Norman, JB Hi Fi, Dick Smith, Bing Lee, The Good Guys, Retravision, Radio Rentals, Officeworks, EB Games, Costco, BSR and other authorised resellers from "late July".
The 16GB Nexus 7 will be priced at $319 in retail stores, which is the same cost as ordering it directly through the Play Store when you add a $19.99 shipping cost to the $299 price tag.
The cheaper 8GB version of the Nexus 7 ($249 + $19.99 shipping) is only be available to purchase through the Play Store.
The Google Nexus 7 has a smaller 7in screen than the new iPad and is the first device to run the Google's new version of the Android OS, 4.1 Jelly Bean. The Jelly Bean 4.1 platform is a minor upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich, hence the version number jumping from 4.0 to 4.1, rather than leaping up to 5.0.

Received shipping confirmation of mine last night with an expected delivery of the 19th! Today however the date has changed to the 23rd. Not happy when I'v paid for 2 day shipping!!

Got my shipping notification on 17, and it was flown from HK to Alexandria Sydney. But it has been stuck there till now. When I paid for it with google checkout, it did say "Two day shipping" which apparently is not true. Not happy.

Why are they $50-$70 more exopensive in Australia to other countries? surely the exchange rate isnt that bad.

Strictly speaking a strong AUD should make it cheaper to import not more expensive.
