NewsGator preps mobile browser version of its enteprise social suite

The company's Social Sites product can already be accessed via native mobile applications

NewsGator will offer a version of its Social Sites enterprise social networking (ESN) suite that has been optimized for mobile browsers.

Social Sites Mobile Web, which will be out next year, will offer users another option to access the ESN suite from mobile devices. NewsGator already has Social Sites applications for iOS, BlackBerry and Android.

The company recently launched a Windows 8 Social Sites client application for both PCs and tablets, while a Windows Phone version for smartphones is in the works.

"We're trying to cover the waterfront on mobile as it pertains to Social Sites," said Walker Fenton, vice president of mobile at NewsGator. "Mobile is a big story and we're redoubling our efforts on it."

Social Sites Mobile Web will be accessible from any mobile browser that supports HTML5, NewsGator announced on Tuesday. Like the existing Android and iOS mobile applications, it will offer a subset of the capabilities available via the regular desktop client.

Tasks people will be able to do with Social Sites Mobile Web include accessing the product's Lookout dashboard, viewing their activity stream, tagging, rating, sharing and commenting on posts, as well as accessing the groups and online communities they belong to.

Social Sites Mobile Web has been designed primarily with smartphones in mind, although it can be accessed via tablet browsers.

However, NewsGator customers increasingly want tablets to act more as laptop replacements, so the company plans to enhance for tablet browsers the version of Social Sites that can be accessed via desktop browsers.

Social Sites, an ESN add on for Microsoft's SharePoint that is designed to be installed on premises and on dedicated hosted environments, offers its mobile applications via its optional mobile module.

When NewsGator releases the next major Social Sites upgrade in 2013's first quarter, Social Sites Mobile Web will be included as part of that module.

Social Sites Mobile Web will run on Social Sites 3.1 and above on SharePoint 2010, and on the upcoming SharePoint 2013.

HP OfficeJet Pro 8730

A smarter way to print for busy small business owners, combining speedy printing with scanning and copying, making it easier to produce high quality documents and images at a touch of a button.

HP OfficeJet Pro 8730

I've had a multifunction printer in the office going on 10 years now. It was a neat bit of kit back in the day -- print, copy, scan, fax -- when printing over WiFi felt a bit like magic. It’s seen better days though and an upgrade’s well overdue. This HP OfficeJet Pro 8730 looks like it ticks all the same boxes: print, copy, scan, and fax. (Really? Does anyone fax anything any more? I guess it's good to know the facility’s there, just in case.) Printing over WiFi is more-or- less standard these days.

Windows 10 / HP Spectre x360

Ultimately, I think the Windows 10 environment is excellent for me as it caters for so many different uses. The inclusion of the Xbox app is also great for when you need some downtime too!

Windows 10 / Lenovo Yoga 910

For me, the Xbox Play Anywhere is a great new feature as it allows you to play your current Xbox games with higher resolutions and better graphics without forking out extra cash for another copy. Although available titles are still scarce, but I’m sure it will grow in time.
