Namco Bandai has confirmed a 2013 release in Australasia for the strategy based RPG, Project X Zone.
The 3DS game, developed by Monolith Soft and Banpresto, brings together recognisable characters from franchises released by Namco Bandai, Sega, and Capcom.
Monolith Soft is renowned for its Xenosaga series of RPGs for PlayStation 2, and even developed a similar title to Project X Zone, titled Namco × Capcom, for the PlayStation 2 in 2005.
However, unlike Project X Zone, Namco × Capcom was never release outside of Japan.
Project X Zone will feature over 50 playable characters from 29 game franchises from the three video game companies, with Jin and Xiaoyu (Tekken), Toma and Cyrille (Shining Force EXA), and X and Zero (Mega Man X) already confirmed for the game.
The game story is set in a world where a rift in time and space suddenly appears, opening a doorway to various universes.
Heroes and villains from the different worlds end up crossing paths in the process, with the player entrusted with discovering the cause of the rift and stopping evil from spreading.
A team of two characters known as a Pair Unit will explore the world within the game, while additional character known as a Solo Unit can accompany the Pair Unit into battles.
To succeed in battles, the player has to master Solo Attacks, Support Attacks, Cross Hits, and Finishing Moves. Project X Zone is currently a working title and may not be the final name of the game outside of Japan.
