Amazon Kindle smartphone details leak: 4.7-inch screen and Q2 launch

Amazon smartphone rumours surface once again

Amazon's rumoured Kindle smartphone will reportedly arrive in the second quarter with a 4.7-inch screen.

It's been a while since we've heard anything about the possible Amazon smartphone but new details have been leaked, via Digitimes. According to an industry supply chain source, the Kindle smartphone will use a 4.7-inch display and be released in the second quarter, which we're about to enter. Amazon was originally looking at a 4.3-inch screen but ditched that idea for a larger display due to an increased demand for larger screens. A lot of smartphones we've seen launch this year have a screen 5in or larger.

Digitimes said vaguely that Amazon has been looking at also 'enhancing' other specifications of the phone buy gave no details.

Although Amazon is looking towards a second quarter release, the retail giant might not be able to hit this target due to production problems at manufacturing partner, Foxconn. The source wouldn't confirm if the changes in hardware were the cause of the possible delay.

If the Amazon Kindle smartphone does ever arrive, it will sit alongside the Kindle Fire tablet range which starts at £129. There's also a Kindle Fire HD and Kindle Fire HD 8.9 which cost £159 and £229 respectively.

It is thought that the Amazon smartphone will run a heavily customised version of Android like the Kindle Fire tablets. It's likely the Amazon Kindle smartphone will be sold cheaply like Google does with the Nexus 4.

Amazon has made no confirmation that it is making a smartphone but when questioned on the device, Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon, said "stay tuned".

I’d happily recommend this touchscreen laptop and Windows 10 as a great way to get serious work done at a desk or on the road.

Windows 10 / HP Spectre x360

Ultimately, I think the Windows 10 environment is excellent for me as it caters for so many different uses. The inclusion of the Xbox app is also great for when you need some downtime too!

Windows 10 / Lenovo Yoga 910

For me, the Xbox Play Anywhere is a great new feature as it allows you to play your current Xbox games with higher resolutions and better graphics without forking out extra cash for another copy. Although available titles are still scarce, but I’m sure it will grow in time.

For work use, Microsoft Word and Excel programs pre-installed on the device are adequate for preparing short documents.
