Microsoft announced it would make the Surface Pro tablet available in more than 24 countries over May and June, and also expanded availability of its Surface RT tablet.

The Surface Pro tablet, which has Windows 8 and runs on an Intel Core i5 processor, was only available in the U.S., Canada and China after it initially shipped in February. The expanded availability could boost shipments of Surface tablets, which have so far sold below expectations, according to analysts.

Starting in May, the Surface Pro will become available in Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, U.K., Ireland, Belgium, Italy, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Austria, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Norway and Switzerland. The tablet will become available in South Korea, Malaysia, Russia, Singapore, and Thailand before the end of June, Microsoft said in a blog entry published on Tuesday.

In the U.S., a Surface Pro with 64GB storage is priced at US$899, while a 128GB model is $999.

The Surface RT tablet, which has Windows RT and runs on an ARM processor, will become available on in Mexico on April 25, and in South Korea next month. It will become available in Thailand by the end of June, Microsoft said.

The RT tablet is already available in 26 countries.

The screen was particularly good. It is bright and visible from most angles, however heat is an issue, particularly around the Windows button on the front, and on the back where the battery housing is located.

STYLISTIC Q702

My first impression after unboxing the Q702 is that it is a nice looking unit. Styling is somewhat minimalist but very effective. The tablet part, once detached, has a nice weight, and no buttons or switches are located in awkward or intrusive positions.
