Samsung Galaxy S4 mini gets revealed: no price or release date

Samsung has suddenly taken the wraps off its Galaxy S4 mini smartphone.
After months of speculation and leaked information, Samsung has announced the Galaxy S4 mini smartphone. The device will be a smaller and cheaper version of the flagship Galaxy S4 but no specific release date or price has been announced.
"We appreciate such unprecedented demands for the Galaxy S4 that we aimed to provide users with life companion for a fuller, richer and simpler life. And now, we want to give people more choices with Galaxy S4 mini, similar look & feel of Galaxy S4 for more compact and practical usages ," said JK Shin, CEO and President of IT & Mobile Communication at Samsung.
Samsung describes it as a 'powerful yet compact version' of its best-selling smartphone.
As expected, the Galaxy S4 mini is powered by a 1.7GHz dual-core processor and is rocking a 4.3in Super AMOLED screen with a qHD (540x960) resolution. Cameras consist of 8Mp at the rear and 1.9Mp round the front.
Storage-wise the Galaxy S4 mini comes in an 8GB model of which around 5GB will be available to the user. It seems Samsung is being clearer on this after the debacle surrounding the Galaxy S4's lack of storage. There's also a microSD card slot and 1.5GB of RAM.
As we though, the Galaxy S4 mini will come pre-loaded with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and will come with some of the software features found on the Galaxy S4. However, there is no mention of Smart Scroll, Smart Pause, Air Gesture or Air View in the press release.
The smartphone will come in black mist and white frost colours and a range of models including 4G LTE, 3G HSPA+ or 3G dual-SIM depending on the market.
We'll be getting our hands on the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini at a press event on 20 June so look out for our initial review and thoughts on the device.
