The web is abuzz with new iPhone rumours once again, as photographs of components apparently destined for the iPhone 5S or iPhone 6 have emerged online, hinting that new colour options are on their way.
On Monday, Chinese site Weibo published a series of images that appear to show next-generation iPhone parts alongside the corresponding parts from current iPhone models.
Among the components shown in the photographs are the power button, SIM card tray, volume rocker and mute switch, which all appear to be similar in shape to the corresponding from the iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S, other than the fact that the new iPhone parts are shown in a gold colour. This suggests that the next-generation iPhone is likely to be an 'S' upgrade, with internal spec boosts representing the main selling point of the new model, rather than an external redesign, but that the iPhone may get some new colour options this year.
The new photographs join an image of a gold iPhone SIM tray that emerged in May. Despite the two seperate leaks of gold components, we aren't convinced that Apple would choose to introduce a gold iPhone. Back in 2005, Apple ditched its gold version of the iPod mini due to its unpopularity.
Also shown in the images are some internal components, some of which appear to have grown in size, and others reduced to make space for various changes. It is expected that the new iPhone will have a new processor - possibly an A7 chip - as well as a significant camera upgrade. There has also been talk about the introduction of an NFC chip and Fingerprint sensor, which could be used with an improved Passbook app to carry out secure mobile transitions.
It is currently unclear whether the newly leaked photographs are legitimate, but it is expected that we will see the official unveiling of the next-generation iPhone later this year. For more, visit iPhone 6 release date, rumours and leaked images.
Some speculation has suggested that Apple may be planning to unveil the new iPhone at WWDC next week, but we think that it is more likely that Apple will hold a separate iPhone event this autumn.
