Sony to launch Xperia Z Google Edition smartphone

Sony to follow Samsung and HTC with Xperia Z Google Edition

Sony is preparing to launch a Google Edition of its flagship Xperia Z smartphone.

Not wanting to feel left out, Sony is rumoured to be launching an Xperia Z Google Edition. The flagship smartphone would come with a stock version of Android 4.2 Jelly Bean instead of Sony's own user interface overlay.

If seems Google Editions of device are the new thing to do. Google I/O introduced the Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Edition - disappointing when we were hoping for Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie and the Nexus 5.

Next came the HTC One with Nexus Experience, another Google Edition of a flagship Android smartphone. It seems Sony is next up.

"A Sony insider who wanted to remain anonymous has confirmed for us that the two companies will soon launch an Xperia Z Google Edition." said Android Geeks.

The source couldn't give an exact date but revealed the device will be announced in July. It's likely that Google will sell the Xperia Z Google Edition via the Play Store as it will do with the GS4 and HTC One.

Android Geeks thinks the Xperia Z Google Edition will get a price tag of $599 matching the HTC One with Nexus Experience. The Galaxy S4 Google Edition will cost $649.

Apart from the operating system change, the Sony Xperia Z Google Edition will remain the same as the existing model. It has a 5in screen with a Full HD resolution, 13Mp camera and a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor.

For work use, Microsoft Word and Excel programs pre-installed on the device are adequate for preparing short documents.

LIFEBOOK UH574

The Fujitsu LifeBook UH574 allowed for great mobility without being obnoxiously heavy or clunky. Its twelve hours of battery life did not disappoint.

STYLISTIC Q702

The screen was particularly good. It is bright and visible from most angles, however heat is an issue, particularly around the Windows button on the front, and on the back where the battery housing is located.

STYLISTIC Q702

My first impression after unboxing the Q702 is that it is a nice looking unit. Styling is somewhat minimalist but very effective. The tablet part, once detached, has a nice weight, and no buttons or switches are located in awkward or intrusive positions.
