Apple iOS 7 lets you hide Newsstand, but you still can't delete it

Small but crucial interface change finally lets iPhone & iPad users put Newsstand icon in folder

Apple iOS 7 finally lets you put the Newsstand app icon in a folder, ending a long-standing if minor irritation among iPhone and iPad users.

It might sound like an incredibly minor change to the interface, but the fact that Apple iOS 7 finally lets users place the Newsstand app icon in a folder will bring relief to a small but perpetually irritated group of Apple fans/critics.

Hitting the Newsstand: Many iPhone users disliked the fact that the Newsstand icon (seen here in iOS 7: fourth row down, far left) couldn't be moved into a folder. Now it can; and it's also been given a new icon to replace the wooden bookshelves of old

John Koetsier was one of the first to discover the crucial upgrade, to his considerable pleasure: in an article last October, Koetsier described the situation as unconscionable:

"I and millions of other iPhone users are stuck with a user experience of an app that we do not use and do not want and cannot delete or even file away."

Until iOS 7 came along, Koetsier's solution was to create a screen for Newsstand to occupy all by itself. Now at least he - and those who don't wish to use Apple's magazine subscription ecosystem - can at least add Newsstand to the 'Apple stuff' folder most of us create for the non-deletable Apple stock apps that we don't take a shine to.

Of course, Newsstand has its advantages too: such as the ability to download free app editions of Macworld and iPad & iPhone User. With temptations like that, why would anyone want to hide it?

I’d happily recommend this touchscreen laptop and Windows 10 as a great way to get serious work done at a desk or on the road.

Windows 10 / HP Spectre

Ultimately, I think the Windows 10 environment is excellent for me as it caters for so many different uses. The inclusion of the Xbox app is also great for when you need some downtime too!

Windows 10 / Lenovo Yoga

For me, the Xbox Play Anywhere is a great new feature as it allows you to play your current Xbox games with higher resolutions and better graphics without forking out extra cash for another copy. Although available titles are still scarce, but I’m sure it will grow in time.

For work use, Microsoft Word and Excel programs pre-installed on the device are adequate for preparing short documents.
