Macromedia upgrades Web graphics tool

Macromedia next week will announce a new version of its Fireworks Web graphics production tool. Fireworks 2 includes new features to bring more productivity to graphics professionals, company officials said.
The product now features a style palette, which enables designers to quickly duplicate fonts and graphic effects across a site and a global find-and-replace feature, which can change text or URLs stored within the graphics across an entire site.
Fireworks 2 also enables companies to use a colour outside of the Web-safe palette in their graphics by locking in that specific colour, or by combining two Web-safe colours to create something close to the original colour.
Code generated by Fireworks for elements such as rollovers can be optimised and then sent to either Dreamweaver or Microsoft FrontPage.
Banner ads or other graphics that need to be a particular file size for inclusion on a third-party site can be automatically saved at the highest quality available for that file size with the product's Export to Size option.
Fireworks 2 runs on 32-bit Windows platforms and Mac OS and is expected to ship in March. Pricing is to be announced.
