Vodafone to launch Cat 4 LTE tablet next month

Vodafone has announced that it will sell the Huawei MediaPad 10 Link 4G Android tablet in Australia from August, claiming it will be the "fastest tablet in Australia".

Available through Vodafone from Wednesday, 14 August, the MediaPad 10 Link 4G supports the LTE Category 4 mobile data standard, the newest and fastest class of 4G.

Huawei says the tablet will handle download speeds up to a theoretical maximum of 150Mbps, where other current 4G devices can only handle 100Mbps, over LTE Category 3.

The Huawei MediaPad 10 Link 4G tablet will allow Vodafone customers to access LTE Category 4 network speeds in various parts of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide.

Vodafone's General Manager of Devices, Katie Turkal, says the LTE Category 4 speeds are faster than the average fixed line ADSL connection.

"Not only do we have the fastest 4G data speeds available in Sydney and Melbourne, we are now also proud to exclusively offer the fastest tablet in Australia."

"With ‘Cat 4’ devices, these speeds are even faster, at up to 150Mbps. That’s more than three times faster than today’s average Australian ADSL connection and fast enough to download a movie in less than one minute."

Vodafone claims it is the only network with 20Mhz spectrum for LTE Category 4 speeds running across all five mainland state capital cities in Australia.

Telstra is currently rolling out Category 4 upgrades around the nation, but the fastest speeds are only available in Perth, Adelaide, and Brisbane at the time of writing.

Aside from its Category 4 support, the Huawei MediaPad 10 Link 4G is a fairly run of the mill Android tablet. It's 10.1in IPS display has a low resolution of 1280x800, while the device runs the 4.1 Jelly Bean version of Android.

The tablet is powered by Huawei's own K3V2 1.2GHz quad-core processor, has 1GB of RAM and comes with just 8GB of internal memory. A microSD card slot allows users to expand the memory.

The Huawei MediaPad 10 Link 4G will be available on three plans through Vodafone, all over 24 months. The $35, $45, and $60 tablet plans include 2.5GB, 4GB and 8GB of data per month, respectively.

The MediaPad 10 Link 4G will be available online and through Vodafone dealers.

I've had a multifunction printer in the office going on 10 years now. It was a neat bit of kit back in the day -- print, copy, scan, fax -- when printing over WiFi felt a bit like magic. It’s seen better days though and an upgrade’s well overdue. This HP OfficeJet Pro 8730 looks like it ticks all the same boxes: print, copy, scan, and fax. (Really? Does anyone fax anything any more? I guess it's good to know the facility’s there, just in case.) Printing over WiFi is more-or- less standard these days.

Ultimately, I think the Windows 10 environment is excellent for me as it caters for so many different uses. The inclusion of the Xbox app is also great for when you need some downtime too!

For me, the Xbox Play Anywhere is a great new feature as it allows you to play your current Xbox games with higher resolutions and better graphics without forking out extra cash for another copy. Although available titles are still scarce, but I’m sure it will grow in time.
