LG partners with Skylanders for Christmas

Smart TV vendor offers a Skylanders giveaway with selected TVs

Skylanders may be a popular property for video game consoles, but it's crossing over to Smart TVs with the help of an LG promotion.

LG is running a campaign in Australia where eligible Smart TV owners are able to receive a Skylanders: Battlegrounds game pack.

The game pack consists of three Skylanders figures, a Portal of Power pedestal, and a download code for the Skylanders: Battlegrounds game.

LG Electronics Australia PR head, Phillip Anderson, said the promotion is about leveraging the vendor’s Smart TV technology with one of the world’s most popular gaming franchises.

“Partnering with Activision and Skylanders Battlegrounds also provides us with the opportunity to delight our customers,” he said.

Although the Skylanders series has already existed in various forms since 2011, Anderson said the 2013 Christmas season was right for the partnership.

“We wanted to reward our customers with the opportunity to experience one of the world’s most popular gaming franchises on our Smart TVs,” he said. “What better time to have fun than at Christmas.”

Bigger gaming focus

With Activision having announced that the toys-to-life franchise has generated more than US$1.5 billion in revenue since 2011, Anderson is optimistic about the Skylanders game pack in Australia.

“Our expectation is to surprise and delight our Smart TV customers with this bonus offer while highlighting the Activision partnership,” he said.

At the same time, Anderson said the aim is to showcase the gaming capabilities of the LG Smart TV platform, particularly after the vendor launched its game portal, Game World, late last year.

The Skylanders: Battlegrounds game pack promotion runs from 11 November 2013 to 6 January 2014.

The screen was particularly good. It is bright and visible from most angles, however heat is an issue, particularly around the Windows button on the front, and on the back where the battery housing is located.

STYLISTIC Q702

My first impression after unboxing the Q702 is that it is a nice looking unit. Styling is somewhat minimalist but very effective. The tablet part, once detached, has a nice weight, and no buttons or switches are located in awkward or intrusive positions.
