Kogan unveils 4K TV below $1000

3840x2160-resolution TV to go on sale in late January for $999

Online electronics retailer, Kogan, is on the verge of launching a 55in 4K television below the $1000 mark, describing it as “the world’s best value Ultra High Definition TV.”

Unveiled at the international Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2014 in Las Vegas, the 3840x2160-resolution TV will go on sale for $999 in “late January,” according to a statement from the company.

To put this into perspective, at time of writing, the cheapest 4K unit quoted by JB Hi Fi is a 55in Samsung model at $3796; a 65in Hisense model costs $5000. Similarly, Harvey Norman’s cheapest model is from LG at $3450, with Samsung’s priced at $3587. Of course, this is strictly a price comparison and does not reflect the performance or features on offer by the products.

In addition to 4K, the Kogan TV contains Smart TV features powered by Android 4.2 with Google Play access. Connectivity options include an Ethernet port and Wi-Fi, a USB 3.0 port, a USB 2.0 port, and a microSD card slot.

Kogan founder and chief executive officer (CEO), Ruslan Kogan, said that while Australians are usually left to envy overseas technology prices, “for once, it’s now the rest of the world looking to Australia, wondering when this Kogan TV will be available in their country.”

While he did not provide a timeframe for the availability of the TV overseas, Kogan said “stay tuned.”

Ultimately, I think the Windows 10 environment is excellent for me as it caters for so many different uses. The inclusion of the Xbox app is also great for when you need some downtime too!

Windows 10 / Lenovo Yoga 910

For me, the Xbox Play Anywhere is a great new feature as it allows you to play your current Xbox games with higher resolutions and better graphics without forking out extra cash for another copy. Although available titles are still scarce, but I’m sure it will grow in time.

For work use, Microsoft Word and Excel programs pre-installed on the device are adequate for preparing short documents.
