Vodafone launches 4G mobile broadband USB, hotspot

Existing customers eligible for discount on postpaid-only devices

Telecommunications provider, Vodafone, has launched two new mobile broadband devices which will be compatible with its20MHz 4G network in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide.

The Vodafone Mobile Broadband USB and Vodafone Pocket Wi-Fi are Category 4-enabled, indicating a theoretical maximum speed of 150 megabits per second (Mbps), equating 18.75 megabytes per second (MBps). The Pocket Wi-Fi can serve as a portable hot spot servicing up to 10 devices at a time.

The pricing for the devices is set as follows:

None

Vodafone is offering a 15 per cent discount for customers who purchase a 4G Mobile Broadband USB Stick or Pocket Wi-Fi device on an existing postpaid account. The offer runs until April 2, 2014.

Neither device is available on prepaid plans.

According to Vodafone devices general manager, Katie Turkal, the telco has released the products to meet strong demand for mobile broadband products particularly from customers who do not want a permanent, fixed-broadband connection, as well as students.

Vodafone first switched on its 4G network in June 2013.

LIFEBOOK UH574

The Fujitsu LifeBook UH574 allowed for great mobility without being obnoxiously heavy or clunky. Its twelve hours of battery life did not disappoint.

STYLISTIC Q702

The screen was particularly good. It is bright and visible from most angles, however heat is an issue, particularly around the Windows button on the front, and on the back where the battery housing is located.

STYLISTIC Q702

My first impression after unboxing the Q702 is that it is a nice looking unit. Styling is somewhat minimalist but very effective. The tablet part, once detached, has a nice weight, and no buttons or switches are located in awkward or intrusive positions.
